Me and my buddy played vieo games after the ball dropped, and an hour later he was like "Man, We've been playing videogames ALL YEAR!" And I went "Yeah, we haven't eaten or slept ALL YEAR!"...Get it?...It had only been 2007 for an hour...Well I thought it was funny.

So I'm reading through the comments on the site, and I find a couple talking about the similarity between this and some of the Sunday strips. This one, though, definitely strikes me as holding a close similarity.
I'd attribute to Toad's sudden nonchalance. And now I'm using language too strong for the Internet... Let me fix that.
